Peter Freund is an artist and researcher currently based in Barcelona, Spain. His projects use appropriation as an instrument to cut conceptual holes in the fabric of historical memory and related enigmas. He has exhibited in the USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Russia, Asia, and the Middle East. Freund is Professor of Art at Saint Mary's College of California (now on sabbatical).
In January 2019, Peter completed a research residency with the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and a studio residency with the Werner Thöni Artspace (WTA). He had a two-month exhibition at WTA of his current work in progress, Lost Grids. Peter is now collaborating on multiple projects as a visiting artist with the Faculty of Fine Art at the University of Barcelona and otherwise lecturing at various universities in the area.
